When does a machine need a PLC or panel retrofit?
A retrofit can be the right path when a PLC, HMI, drive or safety component is obsolete; spare parts are difficult to source; the original wiring has been modified repeatedly; or a machine must connect to a new line. The best scope depends on the machine’s condition, production requirements, available drawings and the OEM’s technical standards. Replacing a controller without mapping its signals and sequence can create avoidable commissioning delays.

What an OEM should prepare
Useful starting documents include electrical drawings, PLC and HMI project files, drive parameter backups, alarm history, machine model and serial number, photos of the control panel, and a clear description of the production objective. The customer should also confirm the available shutdown window and the site contact responsible for safety coordination.
